And more emo than ever, but, you know, forgive and forget.
As the episode begins, Yamato is telling Naruto that it was him who injured Sakura, not Orochimaru. Naruto briefly remembers back to when he transformed with Jiraiya and wrecked him and the place they were staying, and he is saddened. But Yamato encourages him with an excellent speech, reminding him that if he wants to save Sasuke and protect Sakura, he should do so himself, and not rely on the Kyuubi's power. We then cut to Orochimaru, Kabuto, and the (seemingly) traitorous Sai, who have stopped by a river to rest. After Sai finishes washing his face (did anyone else think it strange that we splashed water on himself 8 freaking times?), he picks up his backpack only to find that his little picture book is gone.
Apparently, he had left it behind only to have Sakura pick it up and pocket it. Sai is visibly upset at the loss of his book, but he continues on with Orochimaru and Kabuto to the batcave, I mean, lair. As Naruto and Yamato are discussing their plans of attack, Sakura beckons them over to look at the little book. As they go through it, they realize that it's like a parallel story. Two boys on either side of the book go through the pages fighting various enemies, each time gaining their clothes and weapons. It seems that by the middle of the book, both boys should meet; however, there is only an incomplete drawing of one of the boys without a face. Naruto and Sakura deduce that the book is about Sai and his brother, but what could the unfinished middle mean? Meanwhile, Orochimaru and co. have reached the secret lair, and after walking through some familiar paths (we saw them in the first Naruto: Shippuden episode, remember?), they open a door to find a very familiar pair of eyes. It's Sasuke (commence dramatic music), and he is back to f*** your s*** up!

This was my favorite episode in a long while. When I saw the outline of Sasuke, the first thing I thought was "The emo guy is baaaaaaack!"
I had an interesting thought. You remember that massive flashforward that was at the beginning of ep. 1? How is showed Sasuke? Well, that episode aired on Feb 15, 07, and Episode 47 will air on Feb 14, 08. Almost exactly a year after. If the next episode contains scenes from the flashforward, then it'd be pretty cool, seeing it almost exactly a year later.
That is cool! I never noticed that before, hmm...Though I do know that the reason they stuck Sasuke in that first episode was to draw in as high ratings as possible. After nearly two years of Sasuke-less anime, the first thing everyone wanted to see was our favorite emo boy!
